ABOUT

JOHN SKEVINGTON

UKA / England Level 3 Performance Coach

I have been in the sport all of my life, as a schoolboy athlete competing on the track through to a lifetime as a competing runner in distances from 1500 to Marathon.  I have behind me over 30 years as a volunteer in the sport and now two decades of experience as a coach. Since 2010 I have worked full time within the sport as the lead coach and coordinator for the Leicestershire Running and Athletics Network. My roles continue to be varied as I help to shape the sport both in my locality and nationally. However as well as coaching an abundance of runners and athletes of all standards, providing coach education and mentoring to club coaches has been a priority from the outset.

I was appointed as England Athletics East Midlands Coach mentor in 2012. A particularly exciting time as this coincided with the London Olympics! This involved working to develop other high performing coaches to develop their skills as coaches. I have also been a part of the successful, and now sadly disbanded National Coach Development team.

As well as working with runners and athletes of all ages and abilities, I have also had the proud pleasure of being an International England team coach for road running and England team manager for overseas athletics events! Mere mortals and beyond!
